As Route 90 ended and El Paso was the next stop. I had studied the El Paso transit system and their use of value capture as a financing vehicle, so I was a little familiar with the town.

There was more than a little bit of urban decay in El Paso. I understand that the location near the border must have had some impact. The impact was nothing like Del Rio, but there were signs of decay.

There were also so very nice things about El Paso. They had a great historical mural about all the boxers coming out of El Paso. I took a lot of photos of that mural and the exquisite advertising on the side of a building. The advertising was painted before the days of telephone area codes.

There were some great buildings downtown, and the Kress building stood out. There was a great fountain park in the square. There were people on the streets, some wearing masks.

My vision of what would go on inside the De Soto Hotel entails resident priorities relating to where it will come from today. It had a movie set written all over it. Again…I thought about staying there for the night, but I thought better of it.
