Gillette had a great sculpture strategy. Some larger pieces presented themselves well. The Rooster in front of the farmers' market was very visually appealing. However, with the wide street line and it was hard to get a good feel in parts of the town as it was wide open.

Gillette is the "energy capital of the nation" because of the collection of fossil fuels available. Because this web offering is for posterity, I will provide a little context. This town will be impacted as fossil fuels become demonized at this juncture in time.

There is an out-of-scale skyscraper in the middle of the block. It has taken the form of the citadel of the town. The out-of-scale building could be looked at in a couple of ways in terms of the town's development. The size of the building was probably by a variance, but it could be part of a plan to make the city capture more of an office market as a spin-off of being the "energy capital of the nation."

So again, to provide time context to the nature of the development. Normally I would say, "what is up with this?" but when you look at it in the context of the town's future, it could be considered a model for future development. For example, some of the buildings next to it are two-story, but there are also one-story buildings, and the Hallmark Store building on the ends of the street looks to have vaulted ceilings and is one big story.

They have period lighting at maybe 10 feet because the street is wide. They have the Heroes' banners to honor individuals. There was also good and creative use of neon with the "Pain For Sale" tattoo storefront.
