The final five projects are my projects. I was in town in 1991.
This street, sometimes known as "the Avenue," and defines the poor Caucasian area in Northeast Philadelphia.
There were a lot of vacancies, but there always are vacancies. One that is near and dear to me as the abandoned bank building. I was the director of a CDC that tried to keep the bank from moving. They gave us a target of $5000 in new deposits every month. So I started depositing $5000 every month. It took them six months to figure it out.
My main issues were with low-cost sex workers, but this time I was there, I stood there with many heroin addicts waiting for injections of something on the corner. I told them the bank story and hung out about an hour, and saw the medical people there in force.
I have some stories from this job.
