The town has always been a local hub providing store selection to meet the population needs.It is isolated north, far enough from Route 80 to provide a bit of a captive market.
There were significant vacancies, and the historic hotel was boarded. There were still a lot ofmerchants, and it looked like the virus had an impact on general upkeep. However, there is astrong community ethic toward historic restoration. 100 East Main won the state award forrestoration in 1986.
