The Corn Palace has located in Mitchell. It is a large tourist attraction and draws crowds most days. Unfortunately, much of the rest of the town is vacant. The area across from the Corn Palace looked open, as well as a few businesses on the adjacent block, but the town looked impacted.
It looks like an urban renewal project with significant gaps in the building line, large open spaces sometimes gravel lots. I saw a photo archive of an actual downtown. I looked vibrant and had a consistent line of storefronts. It did not have large gaps.
